Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Emile earned his MBA in Aviation with a specialization in Aviation Systems Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science in Aircraft Engineering technology in 2002, also from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Emile is also a Multi Instrument Commercial Pilot license holder and has flown as a line pilot in various countries like South Africa, Southern Sudan, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and his last flying adventure in Libya where he was based in Dahra undertaking logistics for the Waha Oil Company. This was his most challenging experience as it involved operating throughout the day and night with various security and safety challenges. He has also worked as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic in Watsonville, CA, specializing on General Aviation aircraft. Most notably, Emile has worked for the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority as an Airworthiness / Flight Operations inspector where he was involved in helping write the Kenya Civil Aviation Regulations that where promulgated in 2007. In his dealings with the Civil Aviation Authority, he has also been heavily involved with the Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) helping numerous airlines obtain the freedoms of the air to operate within Kenya on a scheduled and non-scheduled service arrangement.
In East Africa, Emile is considered one of the aviation industry’s leading experts on setting up airline systems and optimizing high-value airline operations specializing in projects requiring start-up expertise. He has been dubbed the “idea factory” by many of his colleagues and has the ability to identify trends and focus on fast results. He is a leading expert on business and strategic plan development, marketing and branding, diversification strategies, partnership development and due diligence. Consulting projects include business plan development for both airline restructuring and start-ups, formulation of strategic growth recommendations, managing of client’s growth mission and operational objectives, providing vision and leadership to carry out mission, and building of relationships.
Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to manage operations within the field of aviation with a wide range of responsibilities and complexities from managing, designing, maintaining and flying aircrafts. He has gained many practical skills from working as an Airworthiness Inspector for the KCAA (Kenya Civil Aviation Authority), working for East Africa Safari Air Express and being heavily involved in helping them go through the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) process; they were the first privately owned airline in Africa to successfully go through the IOSA audit, and from his flying experiences. These experiences have provided him with the tools needed to make an immediate impact. His abilities are complemented by his extensive training in various aviation fields. He is adept at coordinating and leading missions and personnel, offering outstanding logistics skills, and been able to communicate in a friendly, confident manner with people at all levels and in all environments. The experience of going and operating in an international environment has greatly contributed to his personal development and sensitivity to international issues. He has learnt important financial issues that will greatly assist him in his future endeavours, such as reducing risk, value assessment, and other critical business issues.
Emile was involved in setting up OneJetOne Airways Kenya Ltd, a budget airline that was to have launched in 2011 with HNA group as their major investor, unfortunately it didn’t due to various reasons; he was a minority shareholder in that venture. The initial investment amount from HNA group was USD 55 – 100 million. For the OneJetOne project, Emile was involved in writing the entire suite of operations manuals, driving the five stage certification process with the KCAA and also negotiating maintenance and operational contracts with government entities and companies amongst other duties. He was the focal point between OneJetOne and HNA group for all operational issues as they harmonized their operational plans. He singlehandedly drove the entire certification process successfully through the first 3 out of five stages, and was heavily involved in all operations contractual negotiations from crew training to all the maintenance aspects. Emile’s duties involved setting up systems, analysing technological advantages that would optimize OneJetOne’s processes and acting as a liaison between the airline and the Government Authorities i.e. the Ministry of Transport, the Kenya Airports Authority, etc. He was also involved in the successful process of submitting proposals and winning a tender for construction of a new budget terminal at the Embakasi Terminal Building for OneJetOne Airways at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport under PPP/BOT scheme.
Emile is currently working with EAC – CASSOA as the Deputy Executive Director, in charge of the Technical Department.
