According to IATA, 50% of the new passengers worldwide between now and 2030 will come from the Asia-Pacific region. The region`s CAGR 4.8% is the highest globally*. Figures are clearly on the rise for multiple years to come. Indonesia, currently aviation market number 10 in the world, will climb to rank 4 by 2030, transporting 411 million passengers. Vietnam is seeing a 10% increase of passengers in the years 2018-2021. Thailand will enter the top 10 by 2030.
Governments in the South-East Asia region are consolidating this impressive growth via investments and initiatives to support the aviation sector and airport projects. In Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia… authorities are supporting private market involvement in the sector, whether it be in carriers, MRO activities, airport construction, ground handling…
Indonesia is a major trendsetter in the market: within its newly launched investment of 400 billion USD in building projects in the country, 60% is foreseen for transportation related construction. For the aviation sector 25 new airports are in the pipeline. The focus is on enhancing connectivity via `highways in the sky`.
Air traffic control systems, airport infrastructure, aviation services, MRO and ground handling, are seeing an enormous need for upgrades, expansions and technology improvements in order to address the growing demands. At the 7th Southeast Asia Airport and Aviation Summit authorities, investors, airport management groups, air traffic controllers, ground handlers, airlines, and MRO providers will be discussing with service providers, technology and equipment vendors, EPC contractors, consultants, banks and law firms on how to best contribute to the sector growth and maximize performance.
