Hotasi has more than 25 years in the fields of infrastructure, construction, transportation, and energy, as practitioners and academics. His infrastructure experience began as an analyst and planner in the Boston Harbor Clean-up mega project in 1991-1993, upon completing Master of Civil Engineering and Master of Technology Policy programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
Later he joined PT. Garuda Indonesia and became the Corporate Planning Manager (1993-1995). Then for over 5 years (1995-2000), Hotasi worked on the energy sector, including in the development, investment, operation and maintenance of the power plant during his career in General Electric (GE) Power Indonesia. In 2000-2002, he led PT. GE Lokindo, a locomotive manufacturing joint-venture between GE and INKA in Madiun. Not long after economy crisis, he was trusted to be the President Director of PT. Merpati Nusantara Airlines for 6 years (2002-2008) during survival period of low-cost airlines competition.
After Merpati, he joined QUVAT private equity as Senior Advisor with several infrastructure portfolios (2008-2010). Then he became the President Director of PT. Jasa Angkasa Semesta (JAS), leading ground handling in Indonesia (2010-2012). Later he joined PT. Cardig Aero Services Tbk (CAS), JAS’ holding company to assume airport business development. As GOI encouraged private sector to get into airport, CAS has envision and prepare to become private airport operator. CAS has also worked in several airport advisory services in Indonesia, partnering with a global airport operator.
Hotasi graduated from Bandung Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering in 1998 and is active in teaching some strategic management courses at various universities.
