Mr. Somphonh SYGNAVONG has been working for 35 years with the Department of Civil Aviation and airport development projects funded by international donors such as JICA, ADB, Nordic, EXIM Bank of China as well as by national budget especially the project on Civil Aviation Security Improvement Project while maintaining regulations and oversight on aviation security of the airport operator, Air Traffic Management, Airlines and security services providers in Lao PDR.
He is specialist on Electrical, Infrastructure development on safety and security of Airport Sector. He started his career in 1983 as technician in Airport Authority. In 1994 he became Project Engineer at the Airport Improvement Project at the Department of Civil Aviation. In 2000 he is promoted to Deputy Director Aerodrome & Chief of Aviation security. In 2008 he was promoted to Director of Aerodrome and Aviation Security Division. Since 2016 he is the Director of Aviation Security Division at the The Department of Civil Aviation Lao PDR
His international engagement includes: National Coordinator for ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP) as well as National Coordinator for ICAO Universal Security Audit Program (USAP). He has also taken various courses on: Human resource and Marketing training, Aviation Security (Management), Airport Certification, Airport Terminal Service, Airport Management, Safety Management System, Safety Oversight, Aviation Security Inspection, Instructor, Inspector and Risk Management Analysis
